ChatGPT Cheatsheet 👀

How I save 5 hours per week with ChatGPT

Howdy. This is Better BA. A practical newsletter for business analysts that gets straight to the point.

We won’t give you pointless buzzword sentences like ‘Employing an integrated paradigm of predictive analytics synergised with agile frameworks’ 🤮 If that sentence really gets you going, then you’re probably in the wrong place.

Lets get to it

INSIGHT
ChatGPT Cheatsheet 🤫

When I started using ChatGPT for work I had no idea what I was doing.

So I made a Google Doc where I started saving all the ‘prompts’ that I found most useful. Grouped into categories.

Today it’s ready to share. I hope you find it useful ⬇️

Psst - Before using the below prompts, make sure you’ve already ‘fed’ ChatGPT any relevant data you’ve gathered for your project. ChatGPT does not work if it doesn’t have context!

Refining Requirements

  • ‘Can you provide a business requirements template?’

  • ‘What are the main pain points users are currently facing?’

  • ‘Give me the primary objectives of this project in bullet points’

  • ‘Create a high-level specification based on the context given’

Writing Use Cases and User Stories

  • ‘Based on the data provided, what are some potential scenarios that could be turned into detailed use cases?’

  • ‘Can you provide examples of user stories that align with the data provided’

  • ‘Can you split these user stories into functional and non-functional requirements’

Documentation and Communication

  • ‘Can you write a background and executive summary section based on the data provided.’

  • ‘Can you provide a paragraph describing the scope of the project’.

  •  ‘Can you recommend an alternative report structure to improve readability? The report is for a non-technical executive audience.’

  •  ‘Can you write a communications piece describing the problem and solution. It should be no more than 100 words.’

Research assistant

  • ‘Can you summarise the governance process involved for implementing [API Solution] with [Our Organisation]’

  •  ‘Are there any case studies or examples of successful implementations of [API Solution] that I can reference?’

  • ‘Can you help me understand the common challenges that organisations face when attempting to implement [Solution].’

SQL Wizard

  • ‘Can you review this SQL query and let me know if there are any syntax errors?’

  • ‘Could you validate if the results returned by this SQL query align with the business requirements provided?’

Key takeaways

  • Proper formulation of prompts is crucial for valuable responses.

  • Clear objectives and context will improve prompt quality

  • Prompts should be specific (avoid technical jargon!)

  • It’s an iterative process.

And of course - ChatGPT is (obviously) just a tool. It won’t replace the work that you do!

It will save you 5+ hours per week once you get to grips with it though.

WISDOM

'A great solution for a poorly defined problem is infinitely worse than a decent solution applied to a well-defined problem.'
